Good Day Allen,
The electronic ignition will dump the coil voltage faster and more cleanly than the points ever could, in addition the new coil is probably 20% hotter. These combine to push a much hotter inital voltage to the plug. I like the Sorensen magnetic suppression wires, with real copper wire, that is wound around and around to eliminate static, but conduct full spark. Resistor plugs were aimed at the same end, increasing the gap voltage before the first spark jumps. There may be 300 individual sparks across the plug electrodes during the firing of the plug, and after the first electrons jump the gap. JimN
