The main reason they get converted is do keep from fixing the under lying problem. Most folks are'nt sharp enough to fix a carb or set the time so the tractor will readily crank on 6 volts. When these 6 volt tractors were stylish we thought it was an update if they cranked with a starter at all instead of the hand crank. When you were relying on a hand cranked tractor you soon were able to tune it too. There is'nt anything that looks sillier than a 6 volt tractor converted to 12 volts. When folks started converting them it was because the engine was worn out and the faster spinning would help them get one more season of work before rebuilding the engine. Most folks seem to want to spend good money to crank with 12 volts instead of spending the money to fix the problem, and keep it original.
