Looking down on the solenoid with the small end toward you, and the crimped (or riveted) end away from you, and the mounting bracket on the table, the terminal on the left is to the battery, the terminal on the right is to the starter, and the small terminal goes to the start switch. In many cases there is a 8 or 10 gauge wire supplying power to the treactor on the battery terminal of the solenoid as well. (quite often the small terminal is located closer to the battery terminal than to the starter side terminal) I hope this helps, there may be some wierd solenoids out there, but I've not experienced any differing from the above plan.
