That is best left to the pros and done either on a test bench or while the tractor is on a dyno , as one could vary easyly end up maken a bunch of spare parts . myself i would want to know what it is putting out , Now have you run the overhead (valves) and made sure that they are set correctly as valve adjustment on a diesel is most important and is the pump timming set dead on is the throttel linkage giving full throttel ?? is it running to rated RPM , just because the tach on the dash sayes that oh yea we are right up there did you check it with a real tach??? . Just opening up the pump and twisten a couple screws can get ya in trouble real fast . Now even though the other 686 will run around the one with a 312 in it it may be tweeked way past what the book calls for so you woud have to run both on the dyno to see just where that one is and it just might scare ya , Now i am a horse power nut and have tweeked my fair share of them and yes i have made my fair share of extra non useable parts over it . Keep i mind that for every 10% ya crank one up ya take away the same amount in life span .
