Had the same problem with my 400D. Come to find out I had the wrong solenoid, trying to use a makeshift for one that was no longer produced. However, I found the right one on the NewTech web site, and for a simple price of $141, I got one that works. That's right, $141. It was either that or a new/different starter/solenoid that costs more. I took the old solenoid apart as saw the copper plate was being ate up by the contacts. Turned it over and the same thing happened within about 50 starts. The solenoid simply couldn't handle the current, I guess.
