I use gasoline and have for 30+ years as my general purpose solvent..always because it was cheap..which it still is in comparison to so called can solvents and miracle cleaners. I had an uncle who was a mechanic and darn good one too, who kept a bucket of gas with a lid on it and a parts brush. This served him for over seventy (70) years. He never blew himself to Hades or burned the garage down or fell over due to the fumes and finally died of old age..at about 84. Maybe skin absorbtion finally killed him:)! Don't smoke, light your torch, run your grinder or flip lit matches into the bucket/pan while using it. It cuts grease about 10X faster than diesel/kero and can be bought at 3 a.m. if you run out. As for blocks...they had lye vats at the railroad where I worked for 27 years and we would soak 'government jobs' in them. It went in filthy, came out clean...a good water rinse and you were ready to go.
