Most of the time its a heifer that pulls that stunt. A few years ago I had one shut up with her calf for three weeks before she finally gave in. For me this year its been a run of twins, four sets so far with about 130 of 193 calved. Bottle feeding 3 and one cow is feeding both. Only lost one calf so far so I'am 3 ahead today. Very unusal I'am just waiting for the hammer to drop, LOL. Good luck with your contrary bovine!
