Almost all lip seals were or are made by 2 companies (National and CR). CR stands for Chicago Rawhide. While shaft seals were made of leather at one time, synthetic materials such as neoprene are vastly superior to leather when used for seals or hydraulic cylinder cups. When replacing seals on older equipment, care should be used to extract the seal so that it can be used as a sample. If this is not possible, an outside measurement (OD) and the inside measurement of the shaft (ID), in 0.001", and the thickness of the seal are all that is needed to find a replacement seal. Companies such as NAPA and Motion Industries (nationwide) usually stock the seals at a much lower price than the tractor dealers. Recently, I purchased seals from NAPA in a green box with the NAPA label on the box. The green box is the traditional color of Chicago Rawhide. Just my thoughts. Good luck. Ray (medfarm)
