Yes, a 300 series plate should bolt up to a 400 series block. 544, 656, 666, and 686 use the same bell housing. No, they are not the same as a 560. 560 has the same 12" clutch as the 706, 806, ect., while the 656 family uses somthing like a 10 1/2" clutch. 560 frame rails bolt to the front of the clutch housing while 656 family frame rails bolt to the side of the clutch housing. As for putting a 358 in a 560, start out with the flywheel, rear plate, and frame rails from a 310-powered 706, a 756 diesel, or an 826 diesel gear drive. That will get you a start. You"ll pretty much have to fabricate all the lines and linkages, when you"re done, the 358 will tear that 560 rear end to pieces.
