Can't find 1940 M clutch release bearing grease z

Well, I've looked and looked and looked. I've read everything anyone on this site has said on the subject, and I'm still lost. The problem is that I can't seem to find the grease zerk for the release bearing that's supposed to be in the clutch housing . There are two holes on the left of the tractor - one (the larger) immediately below the clutch pivot shaft and one (smaller) a few inches toward the rear. When looking and probing into the larger one, I can't see anything that looks like a zerk. The smaller one had cork in it, but removing that just revealed a flat steel face. To make matters more confusing, the parts manual shows the "tube" that is supposed to be for the pilot bearing as the lube point for the release bearing(!?)

Some ideas:

1. The bearing was replaced with a sealed bearing? Unlikely, but hey, I'm dyin' here.

2. The zerk backed out and fell to the bottom? There looks to be a point directly inside where there "could" be a zerk, although it's filled with grease.

3. I'm clueless, hopeless, and just plain stupid (very likely), in which case I should just run it till the clutch freezes, drop the belly pump and solve the whole puzzle at that point.

If you've already solved this problem and want to be imortalized in my household as a Tractor god, then please let me know how to find this !#$%?@#@*&# thing.
