I have by far had the best luck removing the tank and taking it to the engine shop and having it hot tanked. It costs you $30 and comes back as good as new, not to mention that you don't have the hassle of putting together a setup to do it yourself. I've done two tanks in this manner and wouldn't have it any other way.
