found a hydro 656!

Looking at a '67 hydro 656- tires worn, and it's a diesel. It has a fast hitch, widefront and shows 2500 hours...The guy wants $4500... is that a good price? I drove it last week, and the hydro seemed okay... If the hydro goes kaput... what's the repair cost? $5000? What if I take the unit out and send it in to be repaired? I'm just trying to make sure I will not be in for a surprise.... I see restored ones for $7000 to $8000 in the classifieds....are guys really paying that much for a 1960's tractor?
