Someone probably tried to remove that flange without going into the transmission and taking the bull gear off the axle. That holder straddles the bull gear and can't be removed without taking the bull gear off the axle first. The brake drum shaft is an extension of the pinion shaft and gear that drives the bull gear. The pinion gear and shaft are all one piece. I have a new old stock bearing carrier, but I'm not sure which side it is for. I think the LH and RH are different.
