This was not meant to be a Hi-Tech operation. The Farmall (Regular) Tractor Operators Manual gives .003--.005 as acceptable clerance. With a predetermined equal amount of shims on each side remove pairs (one from each side) until rod locks on crank. Add one to each side and this should give aprox .003. Never add or remove just one shim. John Deere manuals also give this precedure.
