Just thinking about your tractor problems.One thing that would ease your mind on the ring and pinion is unbolt the 3rd link cast piece on the rear houseing and with a flashlight take gander at the ring and pinion to see how they look pitted or chunks misssing or OK.Or if you plan on fixing the 3pt. lift by taking the top deck off you will be able to see more if theirs a problem.Also by draining the final drive houseings oil and see what comes out that will give you a idea on what to do.
