Okay. Red's comment about heat range is probably the clue. I'd suspect your '39 is running lower compression than your '45, and the fuel is not burning as well. Assuming your magneto is in good shape, and the wires are good, next step is a hotter plug. As a test, you might try running the plugs out of the '39 in your '45 and see if they work with the higher compression and the distributor ignition. That might tell you something too.
