why is diesel so expensive then gas?????

hello,
i dont know about you guys, but i have no idea why diesel is so much more expensive then gas.
it takes less money to make it. and not as many cars take diesel. the only reason i am saying this is because i have a diesel truck and i dont like spending that much money when there is no reason too, and if there is any thing else then diesel that is cheaper, please say. all i want in some input on this.,
