Kevin,
The radiator shop wants to paint it black because that's what they use on car radiators. The radiator was probably red from the factory, but if it's painted properly with the flat black it will cool more efficiently. This might not be the best thing on a tractor that probably doesen't run very hot to begin with. I would tell him not to paint it at all and paint it myself berfore I installed it. My 2 cents,
