The 1941 axles will work in your 1950 M. It is moderately difficult to replace the axles. I would not reccomended removing the axle housing too, as Harold suggests, for the following reasons.

#1 Weigh. The axle and housing together are heavy enough that you will need two people to lift them, while one man can lift the axle alone relatively easily.

#2 More work. More weight equals more work, unless you happen to have an overhead crane.
