The bands might not be too long, but the drum is probably a little bit smaller than it was when it was new. On my C I had trouble getting new aftermarket bands adjusted tightly enough, so I moved the outside lever up one spline on the shaft. It worked real well until the band broke from being bent around the shaft. Another possibility is that the aftermarket got a little cheap on materials, and used slightly thinner linings. Back when there was still a local brake shop, I used to get thicker linings put in my bands to make up for the wear on the drums.
