This happened to my 400 once. One of the forks was not centered,which left the tranny in that gear. When the shifter was in neutral it was in one gear and you could move forward. Shifting into another gear Put the tranny in two gears at once and it would kill immediately. I pulled the shifter out centered the fork and everything has been great since then. I don't why the shifter came out of the fork leaving it in gear
