Ballin' the Jack

I'm a first-grader at this; you all know that by now. The project tractor is a Super C with a narrow front end. And a slow leak (transmission oil?) from the cap around the axle just inside the left rear wheel. It didn't leak until I brought the oil in the transmission up to level. I am supposing that I need to pull the wheel, and then the cap, and replace the outer oil seal, washer, and gasket. So: can I safely put a jack under the axle housing/carrier without too much concern that I might need to remove that, too? Or had I better cradle the tractor and plan on removing the axle housing and replacing the inner seal as well. I do know that, in order to remove the wheel, I'll need some help. Like the Nebraska offensive line. Or maybe Sarah and the girls. Thanks for your help. RedTed/MO.
