farmall 544 clutch or t/a

i have a 544 when it gets to pull it will make a noise and act as if it was jumping in and out of gear, i have checked the travel in both linkage, it will also do this when you are moving and and the tractor will coast and take up again, most of the time a sound then the tractor will jump as if you just let the clutch out, it has stoped all together once i pushed in the clutch tryed another gear it moved i put it back in the same gear it worked fine both hi and lo for the hour or two i ran it that day, any thoughts thanks eddie
