Was the engine running well during warm weather? If it is running rich after cold [below freezing] weather, check for ice build-up in the oil bath air cleaner cup, which is maybe restricting air flow. We used to operate our A alot in snowy conditions. Oilbath air cleaners see snow as solid material[dirt] which it rightly deposits in the cup. Along comes a warm day, & the snow melts leaving water in the bottom of the cup. After enough freeze/ melt cycles, air flow down the air intake pipe is restricted/ blocked & you get black smoke/no running. Ours was totally blocked once, but warming the cup & getting the ice out restored proper operation. Worth a look.
