Yep, a battery box was standard. If it's got just a tray, one of the previous owners cobbed it on to add the battery or replace a rusted out battery box. Reproduction battery boxes can be purchased, probably from this site. Just keep in mind that they're pretty small. The smallest 12V battery I know of is a "Group 26" if I remember correctly. It fits in a Cub battery box with room to spare, so it'll certainly fit in the H's battery box.
