1466 turbocharger

looking for opinions: just blew turbo on 1466. what is downside to running that engine without the turbo? engine is 436, same as 986 without turbo, right? i know i lose 50Hp. would pump require reset to lower fuel volume? anything else?
trying to avoid $500 bill at this time. also, any comments on checks to forewarn of turbo failure. sure was stimulating before we got it shut down.
