As Bob has mentioned, the battery only furnishes
voltage to your starter & Lights if you have them.
A magneto creates its own voltage from the coil when the magnets pass over the coil.

Disconnect any grounding wire for the time being
from the mag. Clean those points with swabs dipped in alcohol and set them to .013". Watch the impulse coupling to see if is snapping when cranking the engine. If you still have no fire
pull the cover over the coil and use a flat blade screwdriver to see if the magnets still have good magnetism. It should quickly pull that screwdriver to it. Hal
PS: It could have a weak coil too.
