Everyone has has different experiences but my luck has noy been too good with local shops if starter needs complete rebuild. Since local shops rarely see these starters anymore they probaly do not have all parts that may be borderline bad and my experience has been that they patch them up and get them working. On other hand every factory bebuilt starter I have bought has been like new throughout. Bought 3 in 1 year few years ago and they cost $100 to $125.
