You can get an age for your tractor by looking at casting codes. Look for a format XX-YY-A, two numbers, two more numbers, and a letter. That's the day the castings were made.
It could be as old as a 1948, when Super As started rolling off the line. Those would still have magneto ignition.
They never installed a magneto with an external coil. What you have is a broken magneto that was barnyard engineered into a makeshift distributor by adding an external coil. It's a pretty common fix because it was a lot cheaper and quicker than getting the magneto repaired.
