Most engines you can roll the main bearings out and in inframe, but not the German IH diesels like your 239. You cannot remove the rear main bearing cap until you split the machine, remove the flywheel, and remove the piece of iron that bolts to the front of the rear main seal retainer and the top of the oil pan.
