Don't know that it will harm and engine to run nondetergent oil or not. As far as swithcing the only trouble is all the junk that maybe in that engine could brake lose and cause probelms, but When you buy a tractor you have no idea what was run in it so its a gamble either way. I use the same oil in every thing no matter what it is. I use Valvoline raceing oil. I have used it for 10-20 years now and have never had any oil related problem in any eninge that I have used it in
