You might try a different needle and seat. The only ones I have seen stick closed are the neoprene-tipped ones. A sharp bump can cause the needle to ram into the seat and stick. As captaink said, the best way to prevent that is use an all steel needle or have the little clip on the needle that hooks over the float arm and pulls the needle open when the float drops. If your needle has a groove for the clip, I could probably find a clip for you if you email me.
