Clutch makes no difference -- I usually disengage for two reasons, first, in case I forgot to put it in neutral, second, to keep it from turning anything behind the clutch (engine cranks slightly faster). I assume you timed it to TDC on #1, and have the carb adjustments set so that it can start. Since you have completely restored it, you do have an operator's manual, that has these settings?
