cub 154 gears

My recently purchased cub 154 jumps out of 1st and 3rd. It stays in R and 2nd just fine. Can someone give me an idea of what the problem is, so I don't go in blind. I've never had to mess with the transmissions in any of my tractors yet, so any advice would be great. Thanks in advance.
