A rubber tipped needle valve would certainly help. Make sure the float isn't dragging on the side of the casting. On my MH Pony, I didn't have fast enough flow coming out of the gas tank, and it didn't have enough flow to shut off the needle valve. Open the set screw on the bottom of the carb, let it run into a container for at lease a minute, if you are only getting a dribble, you definitely have a flow problem.
