I can't give you any help or advice but I can tell you a little about the 2-speed otherwise known as a 9-speed . It gives 4 extra forward speeds and 1 extra reverse speed . I have the M&W aftermarket kit on my M . I love it . The one on mine is like an overdrive , 1-4 are all a little faster and 5th is not changed . I can't give you the exact speeds but someone else here may be able to if you are interested . Mine shifts with a push-pull cable through a hole in the front right of the clutch housing , it can be shifted from the seat with a knob on the right of the steering post . 4th high is around 7 mph I think maybe a bit more . My parts book shows that disc brakes were standard after serial # FDBK 285505 on the MD . Good luck with whatever you decide ! ..Randy
