I had a similar problem once on my cub, it turned out my intake manifold had a crack in it and was letting in air, the crack was small and could not be seen, I found it buy starting the tractor and squirting a little carb and choke cleanier on it, when I did the motor ran like it should have. just be cafeful remember you are using a flamable substance on a very hot part of the tractor. well I changed the manifold and that took care of the problem. thats my two cents, I am sure there is a safer way to check the manifold I am just not smart enough to know what they are. have a happy new year
