Before you do anything else with it, check the link below to Bob Melville's wiring diagrams for old Farmalls. One them will be the correct wiring diagram for your tractor.

Bob's stuff has bailed me and a lot of other people out of wiring jams numerous times. Just yesterday I printed the diagram of the inside of the ammeter/switch box and took it to the barn with me so I could make sure what I was doing!
