To get through the distributor versus magneto problem, lets get back to the basics. Is there an EXTERNAL coil mounted along side your ignition distribution source? It will be a cylinder about four inches long and a couple of inches inches wide with two lighter gauge wire connections with one "plug" type wire coming out the top. If you have this particular piece, it is a distributor type ignition, if you don't...it's a magneto. If we can establish this, we will have the basis to begin to help you out. The boys on here are pretty knowledgable and always willing to help. Good luck!
