Put a tank heater on my 560 diesel two weeks ago. Had to tee into the temp guage sensor fitting, as I could not get any of the other large plugs in the head busted loose. Ended up with a whole mess of fittings, in order to get around the fuel filters. Sealed all threads with teflon tape. A week later, I've got coolant leaking past the threads of several fittings. Took it all back apart and retaped everything, the teflon tape almost looked like it had turned to "mush" in several places. Thought all was well until I noticed a drip this morning. What gives? I've worked with pipe fittings many times and have never had a problem like this. Is it possible somthing in the coolant is eating away the tape? Coolant is supposed to be new, was changed by the guy who overhauled the engine, but God only knows whats in there.
