Just a late addition to this thread, that little ball can be a bearcat, and I'm not saying that the ball doesn't need to be there, but if it is gone you most likely will never know the difference. The reason that you didn't see where the ball came from is because it most likely wore down and fell out many years ago, and no one knew it was gone.

Tractor Traction - by Chris Pratt. Our first bout with traction problems came when cultivatin with our Massey-Harris Pony. Up till then, this tractor had been running a corn grinder and pulling a trailer. It had new unfilled rear tires and no wheel weights.
