As others said, distributor rotates counterclockwise when facing the rotor. Firing order 1-3-4-2 counterclockwise. It the tractor has a magneto rather than a battery ignition, please note that the breaker cam has only two lobes and a gear set with 2:1 gear ration between the lobe and the rotor. Thus, it's possible to get the timing 180 degrees out of phase and the tractor will not start, but will backfire and blow oil out of the aircleaner inlet. You can correct this by removing the breaker cover and rotating one half revolution of the slotted connection on the shaft, or by reconnecting the plug wires to compensate.
