Some folks say to put gease between the two seals to help keep the outside one lubricated. But I agree in general that using two is a waste of money. If the inside one happens to leak a little, then the outside one will get lubed from that. However, better to spend your money getting the shaft surface in top condition with a speedi sleeve or other method.
