Push rods are usually more of a "rap" as oppsosed to a knock. Try adjusting the valves, both intake and exhaust, should be 20 thou cold, go from there. Also ensure that there is enough oil in the engine and that you have enough oil pressure.

Up till then, this tractor had been running a corn grinder and pulling a trailer. It had new unfilled rear tires and no wheel weights.
