At the suggestion from someone here, I went to a gasket distributer in my area, and they GAVE me some vegetable based stuff that was paper thin, which I used to seal the fuel pump cover plate. Worked great. Don't remember what it was called. It had a crinkly texture. It's been used since the turn of the century, said the employee.
