I have used over the years tread settings of 48", 52" 56" 60" 64" and 68". I have never used the 40" and 44" settings. There are certain settings whereby what you are seeing is true. There are actually 8 settings for both front and rear, and I agree some are not accurate. I should also point out it is very easy to have one setting different as Paul has suggested.
