I won't disagree with the parts manual, but it is probably the latest edition. I really doubt if the under-seat shock absorber model was available in 1942. It is listed in the parts manual because it will fit, not because it was in production at the time. The aftermarket Monroe seat, with the shock in the rear is more common on those tractors, not sure what year it appeared, though. The 3 seats, pipe (not the 39-40 model), center shock, and rear shock will all fit the non-slot top transmission cover, but only the pipe type was in production by IH in 1942, far as I know. I have a 1941 H with the Monroe seat, but I have no idea when it was added. I would be interested in knowing the year (not necessarily the exact serial number), that the under seat shock type could actually be ordered from the factory.
