Mark - Jim Becker has it: Only if the tractor is equipped with electric starting but not lights is connection made to the cutout F terminal.

However if your tractor is indeed a '53 it should have a voltage regulator, not a cutout!

What light switch does it have? If it's got 3 positions (O-D-B) then the tractor should have a voltage regulator. Only if the switch has 4 positions (L-H-D-B) would tractor have come from the factory with a cutout.
