Allan that piston seal is not a o ring, it is a quad ring, you will have to heat it up in hot water or oil to get it on the piston then use a ring compressor as it cool to get it back to size so it will go into the cylinder.If the cylinder is spliting I sure would change the cushion relief valve that is what it is there for. I never heard of the system staying on pressure to hold the hitch up.
