Original vs. Repro ID Tag?

I'm now the gentlekeeper of a '51 Super C that has seen hard times and better days. Just like most of us. First tractor. I don't mean to do an expo-quality restoration,... but I do need to take care of what I've got. So starting at the south end with the toolbox/pedestal/seat, first question: the original ID is very well worn; only the stamped SNs are discernable, but barely. How important is it to reattach the original vs. a reproduction tag? Thanks.
